I. PURPOSE:

Under State law and Policy II-10.5, the Board of Trustees may, as an exceptional action and upon the recommendation of the University President and the recorded two-thirds majority roll call vote of all of its members, grant tenure to an individual serving as an academic administrator who was appointed with concurrent academic rank after employment at Stockton University for two consecutive academic years.
This following procedure will apply to provosts, deans, associate deans, and other appropriate academic administrators hired with concurrent academic rank.

II. PROCEDURE:

The following timetable and criteria will be used for tenure decisions for academic administrators hired with concurrent academic rank at Stockton University.

  1. At the time of hire of candidates for administrative positions such as provost, dean, associate dean or other qualified academic administrative positions, the Program Review Committee in the appropriate academic program will review the candidate’s curriculum vitae to ensure that their credentials, experience, and background meet the requirements for tenure in their program. This will be done by a simple majority vote (Yes/No), with the non-tally result shared with the designee in the Office of the Provost.

  2. In the Spring of the second year of employment, the administrative candidate will make a request to the Provost to be granted tenure through the tenure by exceptional action process. In the case of the Provost, this request will be made to the President.

  3. The Provost will recommend tenure to the President, who makes a recommendation to the Board for approval.

  4. Upon approval of the Board, tenure in the academic title awarded to the candidate shall be granted as of September 1st of the calendar year in which such application was made.
